Forget the Bucket, or, A little boy's first hospital visit

Well, we thought maybe Eli was over the worst of it this morning when he had made it all night without throwing up. So, I offered him some Pedialyte, which he promptly threw back up all over his bedroom floor. Then again all over the couch. Then again all over the chair. (Forget the bucket---he must be MY child!!) Anyway, by about 1:00, we were getting concerned. He hadn't kept any liquids down, and was showing signs of dehydration--sunken eyes, dry lips, and just a general lethargic, unresponsive demeanor. So, Joel promptly packed him up and took him down to the emergency room. (I had to stay home with Noah and Cosette). The doctor there said he wasn't severely dehydrated or anything, but it definitely was a good idea to bring him in. He's such a skinny little guy, it doesn't take much to make him miserable! So, they ran some bloodwork and eventually gave him an IV for a while. Joel said he was such a brave little trooper! He didn't even flinch when they did the IV--of course, that could have been because he was so lethargic and sick, but we told him he was brave anyway :) When he had gone a few hours without throwing up, and the IV had time to work, he was looking much better. The doctor was satisfied with his progress and sent him home. He did manage to eat a whole popsicle that they gave to him, and kept that down. He's sleeping peacefully in his own bed right now, and looking alot better, although far from being 'back to normal' yet! Our prayer now is that he makes it through the night without throwing up, and that he's able to start keeping liquids down. In the meantime, we're still hopeful that Cosette and Noah (and us!) won't get it. We're going to keep ourselves in 'quarantine' for the next day or two till we see how everybody's doing. And then, maybe, when all this is over....maybe....Mommy will get her break. We'll see ;)

Poor little Eli. We are saying some prayers that he continues to get better and that Cosette and Noah don't catch it. I am sure it has been a rough few days. I hope he (and you all) slept well last night.

Been praying for Eli and I am so glad to hear that he is doing a little better and able to keep things down more. I hated to hear that he had to be taken to the hospital. It's always a scary thing for a parent when things like this happen. Hopefully everyone will get to get out of the house very soon!

Oh Jaime, I am sending a hug to all of you - should be safe over the Internet without getting the 'good stuff', too. Praying for you - and not only brave Eli, but also brave parents!
