Well, I had my follow-up appointment with the ear doctor today. I thought I'd give you all an update, so you will know more specifically how to pray for me (which, by the way, I greatly appreciate all of your prayers!)
We had good news, and we had bad news. The good news was that there was a small amount of improvement in my hearing tests. This would seem to indicate that the hearing loss I've experienced may not be a permanent one. However, the improvement was in my lower range of hearing, not in the upper range, which is where my greatest loss was. The other good thing is that my ears have been 'popping' all week---this would also seem to indicate that perhaps something is going on in there-maybe some fluid or something that the medicine is trying to take care of.
The other good news is that my ears look perfectly normal and healthy---but that also means that the doctor's are having a hard time telling what exactly is going on!
So, the bad news......to make a long story short, my ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist feels like it is already out of his hands. He has prescribed me one more week of that awful medication, in hopes that the improvement we saw last week will continue on a greater scale. However, he has his doubts, so he has referred me to an 'ear-only' specialist in a town about an hour from here. I go to see him on June 25th.
Several ways you could be praying for me specifically if you want: 1. Pray that God would heal my ears! What an awesome testimony that would be! 2. Pray that the medication I'm taking doesn't have nasty side effects for me. 3. Pray that we would start seeing some more improvement in my hearing. 4. Pray that this would all clear up soon, and the trip to the specialist on the 25th would prove to be un-necessary! 5. Pray for my emotional well-being through all of this. It is really frustrating, but I'm trying to trust God, keep my chin up, and have a positive attitude.
Thanks once again for all of your kind words and prayers!!
