A legacy

We just returned home from Grandpa Beachy's funeral.
The out-pouring of love and support was incredible. Not only did he have extremely strong family ties, but the sense of community and love was felt just as strongly from his church family. Grandpa and Grandma Beachy attended a Mennonite congregation, where family is valued highly, and the church body supports one another immensely. It was remarked several times during the funeral that Grandpa put his family as his highest priority, and that's the truth. Joel and I were commenting last night that although Grandpa and Grandma Beachy never had great wealth, they had something far beyond
that---they raised six daughters and one son, all of whom love the Lord today and are raising their own children, and grandchildren beyond that, to do the same. What better legacy would anybody want to leave behind them?
So, although my children will not have the direct influence of Grandpa on their lives as I had always hoped that they would, they will have something pretty close to it anyway. They will have a whole network of aunts and uncles and cousins who share the same values, love for the Lord, and love for each other. Thank you, God, for the blessing of our family...
And thank You, God, for Grandma Beachy. She has been so brave through all of this, but I know she must be hurting greatly inside. She is such a special person, give her Your grace and strength right now...
*Note* The above picture of Grandma and Cosette was taken about a year ago.

This must have been a hard day.

I guess Grandma Beachy will have great comfort in all her children and grandchildren right now. I remember that my parents left me at my grandmothers for two weeks, right after my granddad died.
Years later she showed me the drawings and little notes I did in those days (I was 8 years old by then). One of it said "Jesus is with you and I love you very much.". Sometimes I think, children are able to handle grief much better than we do.
