Our Jesse Tree

Thanks to some of you fellow bloggers out there, our family has decided to do a Jesse tree this year. I know, I know, you're thinking "What kind of a Christmas tree is that? It only has one ornament!" Don't worry, by Christmas Day, it will be stuffed full of ornaments. The basic idea is that each day of Advent, a different Bible story is read, starting in the beginning with Genesis (naturally). Throughout Advent, you read different stories relating to the history of the Christian faith, and following God's redemptive plan to the birth of Christ. Then, you hang an ornament on your Jesse tree relating to that day's Scripture reading. The idea of a 'Jesse Tree' comes from the verse "A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." Anyway, Cosette had a good time with our Advent celebration last night, as you can see. She wanted Daddy to take lots of pictures of her by the tree! We also made sweet rolls, which made it an even nicer evening....:)

The long wait is over. Advent is here. Advent has come. Our family will be celebrating the coming. The coming of peace. The coming of true love. The coming of joy, hope, grace and mercy. The coming of a little baby in a manger. The coming of a Savior on a cross. The coming of a great and glorious King who will someday rule the world, and today wants to rule your heart. The celebration has come. The celebration starts today. Won't you let your Christmas season be full of peace as you celebrate the coming of the Messiah? The Long Awaited One, Jesus, has come.

" There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord."

"That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works."

I have recently had reason to fall in love with my husband all over again. Here are just a few of the reasons why....

What a Daddy is for

  • Taking care of Mommy for an entire Sunday while she's sick with the stomach flu (i.e--listening to her whine, bringing her tea and more blankets, getting her medicine, etc, etc)

  • Spending the entire Sunday mentioned above indoors, changing diapers, washing sticky hands, and doing dishes all by himself

  • Sharing the joys of oreos and milk with his little girl

  • Cleaning and juicing an entire promegranite, only to give most of it to Cosette and Mommy

  • Entertaining two little people through the grocery store while Mommy gets to pick out all the yummy food

  • Rescuing Mommy from the heavy grocery cart

  • "Wrestling" with little boys on the floor

  • Reading Bible Stories to little girls before bedtime, and then spending ten minutes praying for everybodies 'ouchies'

  • Helping Mommy put the clean laundry away at the end of the day after she left it sitting on the bed all afternoon

  • Fixing yummy banana milkshakes

  • Keeping the fire going so the house will be nice and warm

......and the list goes on, and on, and on, and on :)

Hide and go seek

Cosette's favorite thing to do lately is play hide and go seek. I am proud of her for being mature enough to understand the basic concept of the game. It is interesting to watch your children go from being helpless babies to little two-year olds who have their own ideas of what games to play! The basic idea is--Cosette hides, and when Mommy finds her, we both scream, and then Mommy chases Cosette around the house until I 'catch' her and tickle her. What? You say you've never heard of that version of the game before??! :) Here are some of Cosette's favorite hiding places......

Sunday Afternoons

I love Sunday afternoons in the fall! Clean up lunch, put the kids down for a nap, get some hot chocolate, curl up with a good book...Aawww, does life get any better than that? By the way, I'm reading a really good book right now, called 'Capture his heart', by Lysa Terkeurst. It's a really interesting book, and it's fun to read. It gives insightful, creative ideas for being the godly wives that we want to be. I would suggest it if you just want some light, Sunday afternoon reading. (That is, if you happen to be a wife reading this....to all the rest of you, you probably wouldn't get much out of it :) Well, I hear my little lady waking up from her nap, so I suppose my quiet time is now officially over..... back to Motherhood!

Calling all recipe ideas....

Does anybody out there have any unique, really good, interesting recipes they'd like to share? This home-cooking Mommy is getting really tired of the same recipes.........I'd love main dishes, side dishes, ethnic foods, desserts.....anything you all want to share! Many thanks!

Singing toddler

Sometimes your kids give you those moments that make it all worth while. This past Sunday in church, Joel and I were standing for the music time, and all of the sudden, I heard a very peculiar sound behind me. It was kind of like singing, but almost more of a howling sound.....I turned around, and there stood Cosette on the seats, lifting her hands up in the air and 'singing' with all of her heart(and voice!) I think the whole church must have been able to hear her! She looked at me and Joel and gave us this serious look, then nodded her head as if to say, "See, I can do just what you're doing!" I must say, this really touched our hearts! Okay, sure, so maybe she doesn't quite understand everything about worship yet.... but then again, who am I to decide that? Jesus said you must become like a little child. Maybe as adults, we could learn a little from a small girl who wasn't afraid of what anybody thought of her singing... she was going to sing and praise anyway! One way or the other, the seed has been planted, right?

My precious 'little man'

These are some of the best photos from Elias's six-month photo shoot. And just in case you all are wondering--yes, he's just as sweet in real life :) :) :)
